The New FaceBook: What to Know

Last week, FaceBook actually went ahead and did what they've been threatening to do all along: change the structure.  We were warned.  For awhile, FaceBook users had a chance to try out the new FaceBook and switch back to the old FaceBook and use whatever look they preferred.  I was one who preferred the old look.

Now the changes are permenant, despite the FaceBook groups forming against it ,or whatever we might want.  There's been some housekeeping.  Yes, I admit the look is cleaner and more professional. It was quite sloppy before, especially if you were prone to use a lot of applications.  It was like a decorating party gone wild.  You could tell a lot about a person by how they put together their profile page.

Now, we are all being forced to have a nice, organized profile page.  I do agree the changes are good; just hard to get used to at first.  Change is always hard for some of us.!

Just to go over the main restructure:  the white margins have been removed from the sides to create a web page look.  This change creates a more open appearance instead of everything being crammed down the middle of the page.  For some, it was a never-ending page.

There are now tabs created at the top that contain different aspects of the profile: the Wall, Info, Photos, Boxes (applications).  You'll have to click on the tabs to view certain information.  Before, it was all there if you scrolled down far enough; again, more organized.

You can now post a short bio about yourself under your photo on the left.  You can also message your friend much easier now that the "send a message" button is right underneath the photo on the left.

The Wall is front and center as you begin to view the profile.  It contains a mixture of the original Wall entries mixed with the mini-feed.  It's an interesting mixture.  Your home page is more user-friendly and organized into sections.  Before, I wasn't sure where to find certain functions.

I guess the main change I object to the most is that you'll have to open the Info tab to see business information about your friend and  check out their links and personal information.  Since I use FaceBook for networking, and for my Internet Network Marketing business, I would have preferred that information to be more accessible.  Now, you'll have to enter under the Info tab.  It's just another step to take.

Change is hard, but is usually for the good.  Even though I've already posted a few  comments about my concern over the changes, I am already embracing the new look.  For me, most things take time to sink in.  Be sure to leave me your views as well.  We all have a different and unique view.  Just remember, "new FaceBook is now the only FaceBook". There are varying opinions on Facebook changes, but we just need to get use to using the it to appreciate what is offers. This is a well done article, with the right information. Judge for yourself if Facebook is better or not.

Hi Becky, what a great article! Thank you. Isn't it amazing how our reflex action to change is resistance. But we haven't got a chance to resist the new facebook changes, they're done! My first reaction was panic, but the more I use it, the more I'm loving it.
For anyone reading this, the help button at the bottom right of the facebook page, is proving to be of great help to me.

    Becky,
Thank you very much. Better late than never. I'm one who went back to the "old" look. My comfort zone. You've written a very nice article here and I better go over to face book while your information is fresh in my mind. ~ eddie

    Becky,
Great Article on Facebook. It is very informative and well organized. Change is difficult, but it sounds like in writing this article, it has helped move you toward the positive direction of the changes.
